Culturally Appropriative Designs

Resolutions to Appropriation

Shiva Spirit - Shiva is a principal Hindu deity, but the depiction on the wrap isn't even Shiva. It is Shiva's wife Parvati. In the opinion of many, not only is the name appropriative (and disrespectful) but so is the design.

Persian Paisley - Paisley is an English term for a design of Persian origin. Many people who identify as Persian consider "Paisley" designs appropriative, and to our knowledge the designer of this artwork is not of Persian descent. It is our opinion that this design is no exception.

Masala Henna - Several cultures have Henna traditions, however German is not one of those cultures. Additionally, calling the design "Masala Henna" specifically calls to mind Indian-style henna. To our knowledge, the designer of this artwork is not Indian. So in our opinion - and the opinion of many Indian people - this design is appropriative.
